I am a chiropractor, and as such am bound by social pressure to always be a representative of chiropractic. Being a christian I also represent Christ. Being a citizen of the United States of America I represent my country. If I were to evangelize or debate politics on my professional site though I would turn some people off, and I want everyone to be able to come to my practice without feeling judged or threatened. If you would like my professional comments please visit the links provided. With that in mind this is not a professional blog, and I will be exercising my freedom of speech here. I will express my opinion and hope that you too will be willing to express yours. Please comment, question, and enjoy my personal blog. I plan too.

Laws and Why We Make Them

Ok, here's the situation running through my head. In Texas the justice department is thinking about not only prosecuting the abuses committed by the FLDS church members, but also the bigamy. They actually want to prosecute polygamy.

So here's the question I have for our society. Why is polygamy against the law in the same country where Hugh Hefner is heralded as a hero of the sexual revolution. This says to me sleeping around is perfectly fine, just as long as you haven't made a spiritual commitment to the people you are sleeping with. If you don't promise to take care of them you can have sex with whomever you want.

I think that I want Texas to prosecute for bigamy, only so that the constitutionality and hypocrisy can be challenged. Wouldn't it be ironic if the prosecuting attorney were having an affair while taking on polygamists or if he had been divorced and remarried many times. It would certainly bring attention to the wonton disregard for morals that this country has allowed to develop.

I don't want Texas to prosecute, for other reasons entirely. I don't think that our society as it is should be the group to legislate marriage. I'm scared that if we open up this can of worms that society will just say that anything and everything is ok and we should just be tolerant. Satan would just love to completely destroy marriage and family in this country, by destroying the deffinitions.
